It's really a shame that we have to classify an entire continent, but sadly...I've resorted to classifying the entire continent for the sake of Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and "West Africa". I know South Africa is different, but frankly I'm at the point that I've simply given up because fighting through the entire haystack to find that one needle doesn't justify the effort.

I'm sure it's uncharitable, and I wish the legitimate people out there all the best in their pursuits.

I must confess it is a bit harsh being tarred with the same brush because we get scammed here as well and that is in South Africa. I have to agree with Dousie and I am proudly South African. A big vote of thanks to those who know that we are not all scammers.

Well, I'm an African. I'm not a scammer- don't have the time for things like that, however I must admit that a greater percentage of us Africans ESPECIALLY FEMALES are scammers!

In my experience, I have met nothing but scammers on most free websites. But after almost 3 years of searching, I have found a true woman with a heart of gold. I have visited her and she is fantastic and we are getting married in 3 months. So there are diamonds in all of the pig-------!

I have to say that it isn't only women who are scamming on here... there are a lot of men scamming women on these sites also.. and it is true that most of them are in Africa... But it isn't right to blame the whole country for what one group is doing... I have met some nice people on here from Africa....and if the women who are scamming are admitting that they are from africa, you have a headstart on us women who have to figure which guys are legit, most of the male scammers are supposedly from the USA but in africa on a job contract.... which is usually my first clue that I am about to be targeted for a scam.... these people are organized, and can be dangerous.. there have been a few who have had to go into witness protection programs due to threats aginst themselves and their families... so be safe, be careful.. and just remember to never agree to send money.... to anyone unless you have actually met them in person..... good luck to you all in the new year

Maybe not all africans are scammers but the best way to be safe is just avoid anyone from there, tough for the genuine ones I know but thats life, it's not worth taking the risk

why are you berating the scammer ? These little gadgets are very useful for listening in on the police radio frequencies - they can be a lifeline to our people on the reservation - often we are visited by a posse of FBI agents who just gate crash and investigate usually our weapons - checking that we have all arms registered and are not stockpiling or plotting an attack on the United States . I have met some nice honest people from Ghana and Nigeria, but I have met more dishonest people from there than the honest ones. They have more than just a few bad apples there. 90% of the people from there seem to be scammers on all the dating sites and socializing sites. The problem is how do you tell the honest ones from the fraudsters? Getting them on webcam is one way to verify their identity and calling them on the phone at the same time.

So, here go's.... 60 minutes did a segment on Internet dating scam's and in their report, they found that almost all scam's come out of Africa and the rest are coming from Eastern Europe.... not all, but most...... So, Yes a few bad apple's, but the few are concentrated in those places... I myself would tell anyone... especially form the USA and Western Europe to keep clear of those two spot's on the globe. 60 minutes isn't a "fly by night" operation and has been around a long time.

Africa has some of the most fertile soil and mineral rich land. It's hard for me to believe that the people of Africa cannot be among the wealtiest in the world. The problem lies among the people. Too much emphasis is focused on what should be entitled and given. If the people would get off their asses and turn their nutrient and resource rich land into what it is capapble of being, there would not be so much anguish and famine. Stupid is as stupid does. Total population in Africa is 941,249,130 which is 14.2% of the worlds population.... 44,234,240 are Internet users... which is 3.5% of the worlds Internet users..... Nigeria has about 8 mil, South Africa has about 5 mil, Uganda has about 1 mil.... the rest are spread out all over.... including northern African countries.. So it boils down to Nigeria and Uganda make up 9 mil Internet users, which is about 4% of Africa's Internet users and the worlds population is about 6,606,970,166.... which make those two countries about 1.8% of the worlds Internet users...... So, I still say that... Yes, NOT all Africans are scam'mer's.... But when less then 2% of the Internet users come from those two countries and 4% total Internet users are from Africa... and most will say that if only 1/3 of the scam'mer's come from Africa and 1/3 comes from Eastern Europe and the other 1/3 is from the rest of the world.... That make's Africa and East Europe infested with scam'mer's... But that's not quite true, because Eastern Europe has a larger population.... So, its probably 2/3 in reality in Africa.... By the way I never stated this (2/3) in any blog until now... So, again Africa is infested with F#%KING scam'mer's and the truth is... those two countries.. Based on the amount of scam emails I've received, I would say that the Russians hold a slight edge over the Africans.....I feel badly for those that have been taken, but as they say, " a fool and his money are soon parted"....Fellas, if your contacted by a woman that looks like she might have just walked off the Victorias Secret catalog and shes 10+ years younger than you, I'm guessing, just guessing, she isnt for real.....It might also help searching for people in your own neighborhood...Just a thought....

You are completely right Dousie, not all Africans are scammers. The sad thing is that the ones that are doing it are making it really hard for the rest of the people. I have personally had 2 scamming experiences's and unfortunetly one was from Nigeria and the other was from Ghana. I'm fortunate that I never sent any money although they wanted some. I was able to see them for what they were. I have also been fortunate enough to know several people from other African Nations and they are wonderful people. We "those that are seeking someone to love" need to be watchful and mindful of everything and everyone. We also need to be reminded every now and then that not everyone has ulterior motives.
