The governing body of motorsport had proposed a 10 year freeze on engine development but following a meeting of team principals in France on Friday, they agreed to a ban through 2012. FIA will now begin laying the groundwork for a new engine development plan which could be presented to teams in two years time. However, other cost cutting proposals such as reducing the amount of wind tunnel and computer use were not accepted, the teams agreed that something did need to be done to bring down overall costs. One area which a majority of teams felt should be examined is the salary cap idea. According to some reports, the cap would be set at $160-million but engine development would not be included in that figure. The idea of a salary cap was first proposed by Honda Racing last month.
