After being on this site for a few days, I can already see a lot of frustration with scammers and members acting like, well, jerks. There are a lot of sincere and genuine members here who are trying to fill a void in their lives, but aren't getting it here.

Sorry for the shameless plug, but I'm one of those people, which led me to launch my own site. I personally screen all new members profiles for appropriateness and authenticity, and have several employees as well as myself who monitor ALL activity on the site, including the forums and IM service. I am proud to say that we do everything in our power to not just expunge all the rotten eggs, but act swiftly to protect our members in a professional manner. You can never  completely prevent scammers and jerks from signing up, no matter what company is running the site. But there is plenty that you can do to expose and expel them.
