They have won twenty-six world championships

The New York Yankees have long been the crown jewel of Major League Baseball. They have won twenty-six world championships, which is the most in team sports, and they have won the American League pennant an astonishing thirty-nine times. The Yankees were founded in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles, but they only lasted two seasons as the Orioles before moving to New York as the New York Highlanders.wool hats They became the Yankees in 1913 and moved into Yankee Stadium in the Bronx in 1923 and the winningest team in professional sports was born. Beginning in the 2009 season the Yankees will christen their new ballpark, which will also be known as Yankee Stadium, directly across the street from the original Yankee stadium. The new Yankee Stadium cost an estimated one point six billion dollars making it the most expensive stadium ever constructed in the United States. The Yankees are poised to remain the dominant team of the next decade due, in part, to the additional revenue that will be generated by the new ballpark.

Oddly enough there are fewer seats in the New Stadium than in the old, but there are far ore luxury boxes and premium seats. The Yankees main competition in recent years has been the Boston Red sox, but the field is getting a little more crowded with the Tampa Bay Rays also expected to be in the mix in upcoming seasons.MLB On Field hats The Yankees finished behind both the Red Sox and the Rays in 2008 and they are determined that will not happen again anytime soon. The Yanks have not won a World Series since the 2000 season, and that has been far too long for the ownership, fans, and most importantly players. The Yankees have beefed up their roster significantly this off-season with the expectation of ending the drought. They went out and got the best players available in the 2008 free agent class. First baseman Mark Teixeira, starting pitcher CC Sabathia, and veteran all-star pitcher A. J. Burnett, all joined the Yankees during the off-season.

They Yankees spent 423. 5 million dollars on these three players for the duration of their contracts so anything less than a couple of World Championships will be a disappointment. The Yankees and their fans are certainly hoping their free agent class of 2008 will join the ranks of the Yankee legends that have worn the pinstripes before them. The Yankees currently have twenty-one players who were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame wearing a New York Yankees hats on their bust, yet they have only retired sixteen of those numbers. This means that there are five players in the Baseball Hall of Fame that weren’ t quite good enough to have their numbers retired by the Yankees. Now that is a star studded franchise. The New Your Yankees are a class organization that only considers a season a success if there is a World Series trophy presented to them in October. Due to their new ballpark, great off-season signings, and the continued leadership of shortstop Derek Jeter they will be the favorites to win it all for many seasons to come.
