Spot the Scammer

Spot the Scammer

OK guys, so many of you seem so stupid you make a plate of fried squid and vanilla ice cream look like true genius. So out of the heartness of my kind, I am going to post an analysis of different scammer profiles from time to time. Let's start with this one:

teresababe, dublin, OH. Age 30

I am cool, caring, loving and understanding.I do love to hang out with friends and have alot of fun.I am a single mother that lost her husband some years ago and have being lonely since then,i have being with my mom.
About you

I am looking for a caring soul that can take good care of me and love me as i will love him...

Now, how do we know this is a scammer? Easy!
First, the name is a dead giveaway. How many American women do you know called teresa? I know there must be many, but do they call themselves that? And how many of them would add 'babe' to that? Visit facebook or myspace for an idea.
Now, look at the pic. Kinda grainy, no? As if it's been scanned - not from an original photo, but a print. It's clearly been cut out of a magazine. And our buddy has posted 4 identical copies, just in case we don't notice the first one. This technique is so common among the African scammers that I can confidently name this scammer: we call him Scambo. Why 'him'? Well, internet cafes in Africa are rough places. Any woman going there is either there to entertain the troops, or she will be in five minutes!
The body of the profile is a giveaway. Ever met a woman in real life who describes herself as cool? And then look at this: "I have being with my mom." Ever heard that from a woman in Ohio? She's much more likely to say "throw mama from the train (a kiss)". Scambo copied two sentences, ran them together, and doesn't know enough about English to notice the grammar is totally bogus. But I will say this for Scambo: he has learned not to start sentences with "Am".
As for the last sentence: how many women are looking for a soul? I would say, just as many men as are looking for brains! Okay, I know we all say we're looking for brains, but we really mean - just as long as it's got hair around it! Oh wait a minute, brains do have hair around them...

Now what's the bet that if you reply to Scambo, the first reply you get from him will tell you that he's "now in Ghana on business" or "to visit my mom's family". Funny how his ghanaian mom turned out a blonde blue-eyed daughter. Genetics is full of surprises, but this isn't one of them.

So now you can spot Scambo's work with no trouble at all. The next session will deal with more tell-tale signs. Later on I might turn this into a full online course, at a low rate of course. After all, I have a habit to feed. (No, the habit I am referring to is eating.)

No lesson is any good without an exercise to see if you've grokked it, so here is .....

Exercise 1.

filayous20200

Scambo has a new pic, and he's slipped back into an old habit. Can you spot it?

Here is exercise 2:

Write down all the signs that this one is a scammer:

ladyjulia

hello ther

i am julia single and i am looking for serious relationship which will lead me to married and i am hear for jucks and lies so pls u ther for jucks dont mail me ok

**************
Now look at the map that goes with the profile. What single question could you ask this scammer that would in all likelihood show him up immediately?

*************
Answer: Ask him about Calumet Avenue - what kind of name is that? Most Americans would have some idea; most Floridians would have the right answer; and Scambo has no clue, guaranteed!

I really enjoy reading "spot the scammer". I have notice quite a bit of activities on this site regarding people from Nigeria. Well the things is when they would send me a email it always referring to how God fearing they are. They will mention that some family member lives in a America and tell you that they are working in Nigeria on contract do not believe that. You are right about their sentences structure, it like they don't know even know they already mess up and said thing they should not have said ; which gives them away. When chatting with one of them on the yahoo, they always talking about how much they love you and want to be with you. The guys would go as far as writing a very weak poem about love. Now come on how can you be so head over hills about a person you have not met. This is just my thoughts on the matter when you run into men from Nigeria.

Hi there

I think it is so funny and ironic. I stumbled upon your second profile and I realize that all your so called advice is a bit meaningless if you are probably a scammer yourself or what do like to you call it ?
There comes a time in life, where things got a way of catching up with you.
