Singapore International School (Model United Nations)
Author: jigishha
SIS Model United Nations is undoubtedly one of the most thought-provoking exercises in the world of education for students. This is an International School Event where a student’s puts himself into the role of a nation’s UN delegate is not an easy job but a profound accountability, one that needs to be done with zeal, care, precaution, love for diversity and commitment to human rights. SISMUN’s theme for the 2011 conference is ‘The State of the World’s Children’ concentrating on the massive amount of problems being faced by the children today. The children of this world will determine its future, but we can define these children’s future. Measles, malaria and polio are three of the biggest killers of children — yet all are preventable or treatable.
SIS is organizing this International School Event in the month of April 8-10, 2011 at the SIS Campus. The committees that will be a part of this event are: DISEC, ECOSOC, WHO, UNICEF, SOCHUM, UNDP, UNEP. To take benefit of this and be a part of the event your institute needs to be registered by the 30th March 2011.
Every year 6 million children die under the age of five due to hunger. We heard it earlier that in India girls were denied education and had to do the household work, but in the Middle East and North Africa girls here are denied education three times more than boys. More than 300,000 child soldiers are subjugated in the armed conflicts in more than 30 countries across the globe. And approximately 2 million students are exploited through the commercial sex trade. Do you think that these children can make the future of any country that we have thought of for the world? This is a big question that is still unanswered. If we want to improve the world tomorrow we need to improve the situation of the children today. The committees mentioned above will address to you one problem related to the children on this Internation School Event. The WHO (World Health Organization) takes care of the issues related to public health, while Disarmament and International Security Council attempts to study displacement and prevent children from working as child soldiers.
SIS has also arranged for a Photo Journalism Contest, the theme for this contest is Diversity. This is an inter – institutional photo essay exposition. Each school can send four entries each to be based on the theme of Diversity carrying four photographs along with a hundred word summaries to tell about the story. What we are looking for is the original strain of thought that goes behind the photographs.
The Secretariat and Dais of SISMUN which is a combined experience pool of different MUNs all over the world earnestly look forward to your participation in the International School Event which will contribute to making this conference a success.
