A Lonely Garden

I wish that I could say I know I loved him well.

Although I loved him then as now,

Somehow, I am sure I could do nothing but fail.

My desires were not met by his lonesome needs.

The vain covenant refused to grow,

As if was a red rose entrapped by beguiling weeds.

My heart found no warm safe harbor in his breast.

The white rose of truth languished;

Within, my sad soul bled and knew no sweet rest.

So I offered up to him a radiant yellow rose instead

Praying friendship lay not vanquished;

Yet, sorrowfully found only a lonely garden dead.
