Since the fire destroyed everything in the house, the local community have got together to support the family which includes four boys and two girls aged from 15 years to nine months. "The community has rallied around. £300 was raised on Christmas night and toys were collected for the kids so that they would have something to play with," said Sinn Fein MLA Pat Sheehan. "We could have had a complete catastrophe had the fire broken out in the middle of the night with all the kids in bed. Thankfully that didn't happen. The house is destroyed, all the furniture is destroyed, all the kids' presents are gone. "It was bad, but we can be thankful we are not wakening up to a catastrophic situation where people were killed." It is understood that the blaze started in the kitchen.
