Browns rookie Sheard settling in on left side
  Rookie end Jabaal Sheard played so well being switched to the left side last week that coach Pat Shurmur wants to keep the change permanent. Sheard made five tackles, had a quarterback hurry and got a strip sack on Colts quarterback Kerry Collins.Jayme Mitchell seemed to benefit from the change, too. He made four tackles as the right end.I think they're getting better, and we're finding the best way to use them, Shurmur said. I think that's probably the way we're going to go with it now. Keep Jabaal on the defensive left, offensive right. I think they did a good job and they're getting better.Sheard had three tackles against the Bengals as the starting right end.The Browns beat the Dolphins in Miami late last season on a 23-yard field goal by Phil Dawson as time expired to break a 10-10 tie. The score was set up on an interception by Mike Adams.The interception by Adams was the result of a tipped pass by David Bowens. Former coach Eric Mangini gave his players the next day off. When he got the news, Bowens invited all his teammates to his home eight miles away for a pool party.Chris Palmer, the Browns' first coach of the expansion era, gave Dolphins coach Tony Sparano his start in the NFL. Sparano was a quality control offensive coach for Palmer in 1999 and the offensive line coach in 2000.Bernie Kosar passed for 401 yards while completing 32 of 50 passes against the Dolphins on Nov. 10, 1986, but he did not throw a touchdown pass in the 26-16 Monday night victory. The Browns scored their touchdowns on runs by Curtis Dickey and tight end Harry Holt.The Browns came as close as anybody to spoiling Miami's unbeaten season in 1972. The Browns led, 14-13, in the third quarter of a divisional playoff game held in Miami but lost, 20-14.Mike Phipps, the Browns' starting quarterback taken with the pick acquired from the Dolphins in a trade that sent Paul Warfield to Miami in 1971, threw one touchdown pass and five interceptions. Ironically, Warfield caught passes of 15 yards and 25 yards in the game-winning drive.In another first for the Browns, their team charter went off the runway and got stuck in the mud at Cleveland Hopkins Airport as the pilot was taxiing prior to takeoff for the game against the Colts Sept. 18.The Browns had to deplane and wait for a smaller plane to take them to Indianapolis, finally arriving about 3 1/2 hours later than scheduled.
