when first approaching a website for seo there's a couple of things you'd like to take care of initially. here are some things i do first when reviewing awebsite for search engine optimization.

1.Check The Titles and Headers -

Title Tags are the text on the top edge of your browser. it is from them that google deciphers your site's name ( naturally ) and the main theme you wish to rank for. titles are a very cruicial factor for seo. if you find a niche that is not in any website's title then you'll probably rate for it automatically just by including the keyword in your title.

2.Check The Website's general structure and content -

search engines like content that is unique, original and of course useful to the reader. content is written for people. not for search engines. and the S"E's know when it is written that way. it also likes site that are structured with sub-topics. meaning that the homepage is a representation of the primary key word, the h1 header is the latent semantic indexing of that primary keyword. and the h2 headers are subtopics ( and ideally secondary keywords. )

3.Build Inbound links with keyword-rich anchor text. inbound links means links that are pointed to your website from other sites ( without getting a link back like reciprocal links ) . ideally they should come from an authoritive part of the website thats linking to you. the more backlinks to the page with the link to you has the better the links. the more pages that same page is linking to the less link value each link has.
