Gee, add a comment like I do on my profile to chase away most scammers and then NEVER give another email address, cell phone number (text message spam) and maybe buy a Magic Jack to have a phone dedicated to these sites so you don't give out your real phone at first. You have to play it their way until you know they are real. (About 1 in 500 seem to be real so it's a numbers game!)

Out of despiration or lack of knowledge many people try and make money from dating sites buy building a membership and then selling advertising. In some cases it works but only if you manually supervise the site and delete the rubbish.

But the good dating sites are specialists and understand all areas relating to singles and people are willing to pay for a quality service, which in comparison to other ways of meeting singles is quite inexpensive.

If you go out one night to a night club seeking to meet someone it would cost you more than a years membership at a well run singles site.
